Pruning Blueberry Bushes

Prune blueberry bushes in late winter or early spring to remove any dead or damaged branches and promote new growth. Thin out the interior branches to improve air circulation and sunlight penetration, which can result in larger and juicier berries. Avoid pruning more than 1/3 of the plant at a time to prevent stress and decrease fruit production. Mulch around the base of the blueberry bush to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
