Caring for Broccoli Plants

When growing broccoli, choose a sunny location with rich, well-draining soil. Plant broccoli in raised beds or containers if your soil is heavy or has poor drainage. Mulch around the plants to retain moisture and prevent weed growth. Regularly water the plants, aiming for about an inch of water per week. Monitor for common pests like cabbage worms and aphids, removing them by hand or using organic pest control methods. Harvest broccoli heads while the buds are still tight and compact, before the yellow flowers open. Once the main head is removed, smaller side shoots will continue to develop, providing additional harvests.
