Roses thrive in well-drained soil with at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. Water your roses deeply at the base to encourage strong root growth, and avoid wetting the leaves as it can lead to fungal diseases. Use a balanced rose fertilizer every four to six weeks during the growing season for optimal growth. Regularly inspect your roses for pests like aphids and thrips, and use appropriate organic or chemical pest control methods if necessary. Prune your roses in late winter or early spring to remove dead or diseased wood and shape the plant. Harvest roses by cutting the stem above a set of healthy leaves, and remove any thorns or leaves that will be below the water line in a vase.
