Tip for Pruning: Timing is Key

Timing is crucial when pruning your plants. For most flowering shrubs and trees, it’s best to prune during their dormant period, typically in late winter or early spring. Pruning at this time encourages vigorous growth in the coming season. However, there are exceptions, such as spring-blooming shrubs, which should be pruned immediately after they finish flowering. On the other hand, summer- and fall-blooming plants can be pruned in late winter or early spring. Remember to use clean and sharp pruning tools, and always make cuts just above a bud or lateral branch. By pruning at the right time, you’ll promote healthy growth, maintain the shape of your plants, and enhance their overall beauty.
